MULTI-USER NETWORK SETUP The Wireless Marketing Wizard and CellRam include Multi-User Networking
capabilities for all users on the local network. See the Inter-Store
Communications page for information on collecting data in a single
location from one or more other locations.
Data will be shared by all machines assigned to the same storage
directory on one of your computers. Basically, there are two procedures
involved.
1, Share a folder on one of the machines on your network.
2. Assign the data storage folder in the software on each computer.
Follow these steps:
1. Select a machine that will store your customer
data collected by CellRam and the Wireless Marketing Wizard. This can
be any machine or a server accessible to all software users on your
network. Always select a machine that is turned on first or always on
as it MUST be running for other machines to access the data storage
folder. This data storage machine need not have CellRam installed. This
machine will be called the Server for our purposes here.
2. Share the storage folder: We need to share
the folder so other machines on the network will have access.
a. In the server selected above, go to my computer and open local
disc C:/.
b. If CellRam is installed, locate the CellRam_Share folder on the C
Drive.
-- if the 'server' will not be running the
software or there is no folder named c:\cellram_share, create the
folder.
c. Right click on the CellRam_Share Folder and choose "Sharing and
Security." Check BOTH the "Share this
folder on the network" and "Allow users to change my files" check
boxes. Click "Apply" and "OK." The folder is now shared.
3. Assign the storage folder:
In the server selected above, the data storage setting
should be set to the default 'c:\cellram\share folder.
In all other machines, you will be selecting the folder by
locating it on the network, i.e. in "My Network Places"
a. Start the software and click the blue
“Main Menu" button
in the lower left hand corner.
b. See the field at the top of the Main Menu:
Directory/UNC Path. This field displays the current "Data Storage
Location" path. By default, it is set to "c:\CellRam_Share"
c. To change the current setting, click the red "Browse for Folder"
button.
d. To locate and connect to a shared network folder, Close drive C
and open "My Network Places". Windows may take some time until
the new shared folder we created in step 1 appears in the shared folder
list. If you see it, click on it, and click “OK and click Yes.”
and you are done.
If you do not see the folder in the list - open the "Entire Network
icon," then open 'Microsoft Windows Network." You will then See your
Workgroup name(s). Most network should have only one workgroup. If you
have more - that's OK - you need to open the workgroup(s) and look for
the machine where the data is stored. It will appear as "CellRam_Share"
on computer name. When you find it, click it and click “OK – Yes.” and
you are done. |
